ATHLETE – CROSS COUNTRY – TRACK & FIELD – INDUCTED IN 2025
A year after finishing second at the Ontario high school cross-country championships, Bob Donker edged Westdale’s Jason Bunston by a little more than a second to win the 1987 junior boys OFSAA title.

The 1990 Georgetown District High School male athlete of the year, Donker earned a scholarship to West Virginia University (WVU) where he became the only runner to win three Atlantic 10 Conference cross-country titles, claiming consecutive championships from 1991-93. Donker also helped the Mountaineers claim two conference team titles.
In the 1993/94 season, Donker became the first WVU athlete to earn three all-American honours in one year. He claimed his first all-American honour with a 24th-place finish at the NCAA cross country championships, then added two more, finishing seventh in the 5,000m at the NCAA indoor track and field championships and fifth in the 5,000m at the outdoor championships.
Also in 1994, Donker won the 5,000m at the Penn Relays, the first WVU male athlete to post a victory at the event in 100 years. Back home in Toronto, he set the Canadian 5K road record.
Donker also won the McCoy Award that year as the best track and field athlete in the state of West Virginia and the Atlantic 10 Conference male student-athlete of the year.
In his senior season, Donker finished sixth in the 5,000m at the NCAA indoor championships, earning his fourth all-American honour.
Donker captured the Canadian indoor 3,000m championship in 1995 and later that year represented Canada at the Pan Am Games in Argentina where he finished 13th in the 5,000m.
Donker earned a spot on the Canadian cross-country team for 1996 world championships in South Africa, but was unable to compete due to a career-ending injury.
In 2024, Donker was inducted into the West Virginia University Mountaineers Hall of Fame.
