BUILDER – SOCCER – INDUCTED IN 2011
Having founded the Dixie Soccer Club in 1970, Bert Zonneveld knew how to grow an organization. He had also started Mississauga’s first youth rep league, a forerunner to the Peel-Halton league.

So when it was time for the Georgetown Soccer Club to established how it would be governed, it was Zonneveld that drafted the club’s constitution.
It was just one of the many valuable skills he brought to the club in his two decades of involvement.
Zonneveld, who had coached in the National Soccer League in the 1980s, brought those abilities to Georgetown as well. In 2009, he coached Georgetown’s first rep team to win an Ontario Women’s Soccer League championship after a 9-1-2 season.
He also taught his players to play the right way. In 2013, his Georgetown Mustangs team received a Meritorious Sportsmanship Award from the Ontario Women’s Soccer Association after going five years without receiving a single yellow or red card, the first team in 38 years to achieve the feat.
Zonneveld was honoured in 2011, receiving the Meritorious Service Award from the Ontario Soccer Association.
As soccer’s popularity continued to grow, the town’s soccer pitches were at capacity. Desperately needing fields in order for the club to continue to grow, Zonneveld was instrumental in working with the Town of Halton Hills to advance Trafalgar Sports Park, which added 11 fields.
